Wines of the week 26th May 2019

Wines of the week 26th May 2019

This week I tasted a Syrah from Chile, a very mineral Sauvignon Blanc from the Loire and a full bodied Cab from Napa.

Beringer Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon Private Reserve 2012 - 93 Points . -$150 CAD

Super interesting to drink this at this stage, however one word of warning, this needs some age on it. On the nose, I found fresh blackberries, dark cherries, espresso, black pepper and spice. This wine was med-full bodied powerhouse with strong tannins and acidity, on the palate, I found black fruits, green pepper, black pepper, liquorice, the finish was full and a little creamy. This is a serious wine which needs time, I prefer the PR at a later date maybe 15 or so years of bottle age.

Casa Lapostolle Syrah Cuvée Alexandre Apalta Vineyard 2014 - 92 Points - $26 CAD

This is inky dark, aromas of dark cherries, blueberry tart, bitter dark chocolate, fresh herbs, this is a full-bodied wine with smooth refined tannins. On the palate, I found dark red fruits, bramble jam, along with liquorice, espresso and a little spice. Nicely integrated with a smooth creamy finish. Drink now over the next couple of years

Domaine Vacheron Sancerre 2017 - 92 points - $42 CAD

Loads of sweet peas! amazing, along with citrus peel, wet stones, good acidity a little chalkiness and some spring flowers. Love the balance, if not a little young there is good concentration and the acidity tells you to come back in a couple of years, this will be even better 92+
