Wines of the week 21st April 2019

Points on Wine - Wines of the week 21st April 2019

This week I tasted a beautifully balanced Pinot, a robust Syrah from Ventoux, one Italian single vineyard Barbaresco and my go to NZ Sauvignon Blanc!

Alain Gras St. Romain Rouge 2017 - 92 Points - $56 CAD

Wonderful purity of fruit, cranberry, ripe cherries, strawberries. Soft, delicate and easy drinking Pinot. Looking forward to the next couple of bottles

Château Pesquié Ventoux Quintessence 2017 - 90 Points - $24 CAD

A lot of ripeness to this wine, very concentrated, dense and fruit-forward. Deep purple colour with intense aromas of Cassis, fresh violets, blackberry and dark red sweet cherries. This is a medium-full bodied wine with chewy tannins along with strong characteristics on the palate of stewed and ripe dark red fruit. Drink now and over the next 3 years.

Produttori del Barbaresco Barbaresco Riserva Pajé 2013 - 93 Points $70 CAD

Very closed for now with very lively acidity, structured dusty tannins yet a good fruit structure. This will take a good 10-15 years to really get into 'that' window. Hence, you should wait it out. Don't pop the cork too early. Holding back 93+

Cloudy Bay Sauvignon Blanc 2018 - 91 Points - $35 CAD

Very consistent compared to the previous note, heaps of grapefruit, gooseberry, lime juice, piercing acidity. This is benchmark NZ Sauvignon Blanc. This is intense, gripping and in your face. I really feel Cloudy Bay has improved in the past few years.
