2018 Wine of the Year - 2 weeks to go!

On the 15th of December, Points on Wine will announce their Top 10 wines of the year. In 2018, Points on Wine travelled to Chile, Argentina, Portugal and New York to taste at wineries, International wine tasting events and Independent tastings. These tastings allowed us to visit multiple wineries, meet some passionate producers and winemakers, and allowed us to taste some of the world's best wines.

2018 went so quickly, and after trying so many outstanding wines, how do you come up with a top 10? The best way to approach this is to take into account the:

  • Quality

  • Availability

  • Price

  • Producer

When considering all of the above, the most important factor is the quality/price ratio. Which is why certain wines in the Top 10 might surprise some readers. It is easy to just select 10 wines, which are a perfect 100 points, and cost $1000's. However the majority of wine lovers (including us), cannot afford these wines, so there is no point, to even discuss them during a Top 10. Which is why, there will be a few surprises.

We are wrapping up the next few weeks with a few last tastings. Is there anything we absolutely have to taste? What have been your highlights in 2018? Let us know!
